Updates

9/10/2012

Still no babies from Mama Bun.  I'm beginning to wonder if her breeding took.  I'll leave the nest box in there until next Saturday (one week past when she was due) just to make sure.

Autumn has been treated for fleas, and seems to be much happier for it.  I still see fleas on the babies, but the vet assured me than treating mom would treat the kittens by proxy.  It's only been about seven hours since I put the treatment on, but I can see how relieved Autumn is.  I also bought her a collar, so she can get used to the feeling of belonging to someone.  I'm starting to put up ads for her now, and will start placing ads for the kittens once they're a little older (in three weeks or so).  They won't be able to go until just before Halloween, but I'd like to have homes lined up for them if I can.

Turtle Cheesecake is still here, waiting for her retirement home.  She's a nice girl, but I know most people don't want an older pet.  If she doesn't find a retirement home, she'll just stay here for the rest of her life.  That's fine too.

The sable hamster mama is doing well with her litter.  Babies are starting to get some color.  Looks like they'll all be banded, like their dad.  Colors aren't known yet, but photos will be posted when they're furry!

My other foster kitten is coming of age.  He's four weeks old now, using the litter box, eating hard food, and playing.  He still hasn't figured out how to drink from a bowl, but he'll figure it out in his own time.  To help with his socialization, I've sought out another litter his age to foster, so he can have a foster-littermate (or a few).  I think it'll be good for him to have someone his size to play with, and maybe then I can start leaving him home when I go to work (much to the dismay of my co-workers I'm sure).  So check back for photos of the new foster(s) that are supposed to be coming this week!  They (and my current foster baby) will be ready for new homes in about 4 weeks.

July 6th litter SOLD!

9/4/2012

Yes, that's right, the July 6th litter is sold!  Turtle Cheesecake is still looking for her forever home.

I expect my sable girl to deliver tomorrow or Thursday.  I'm not sure if the red/grey calico breeding took, but if it did, it will be a very small litter, as momma isn't getting very big.

Mama Bun has her nest box with bedding in it.  Hopefully she likes it.  We're still looking at Saturday as her due date.

First Post - New Website

9/3/2012

Well, I had fun setting up this website.  It should be fun keeping it updated with photos and updates on babies!

This last week I decided to retire Turtle, my favorite hamster.  She's been a great breeder, but she's getting to be too old for breeding.  She needs to settle down and be a pet for a while.

This Wednesday/Thursday I have two hamster litters due.  One with a new male, and one with a new female.  It should be interesting to see what I get from these pairings.

By the end of the week, I should have my very first litter of bunnies!  Mama Bun is due 9/8 (Saturday).

Photos of all babies to come - but not until mamas are settled in and photos won't be stressful.
