In other news, one black doe, and the doe from Paris's (Harlequin/New Zealand) litter with the same birthday went to their new home today. They will be companions in the same home, and the young lady (happy birthday) and young man (birthday girl's brother) who picked them out seemed pretty thrilled to bring them home! I can tell they're going to be very much loved.
I re-checked Stew's litter today and was surprised to find that while I was right with the black bunnies (3 girls, 1 boy), I was way off with the reds. They're all boys! Well darn, I thought I had one or two little red ladies in the bunch, but clearly I was wrong.

I can tell they're going to be very much loved. Time for the big gender reveal! I checked the baby bunnies again today. It looks like I have three black does, one black buck, two red does (though one I'm not sure on) and two red bucks out of Stew's litter. I'm still not sure on Paris's litter. They all look like does, but I'm not willing to say that with 100% certainty just yet.
In other news, last week we lost Polkadot, the new Rhinelander cross buck I picked up at the auction last month. He had the sniffles when I picked him up from the auction, but I had hoped it was just from being in the cold barn. Unfortunately, he didn't spring back. I did keep him away from the rest of the bunnies, but he was transported home from the auction next to my Flemish buck, and now he's starting to look thin as well, despite having a full food bin and hay. The Flemish buck has been housed in his own hutch as well, so I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. I have terrible luck with these auctions. I lost half the rabbits I bought at the spring auction too. I wonder if it has to do with how cold the auction barn is and that some of the rabbits are left there for a day and night (sometimes without food and water) before the auction. It's been more than 31 days and the Holland lop pair has not produced a litter. I'm not sure why (are they too old?). Again, perhaps another auction flop. They were labeled as a proven pair, which is why I bought them, but it seems the auction wins again - and I've been duped. Unfortunately, there are no repercussions for whoever sold these rabbits. Due to the back-log on chinchillas, the female that is in with the male now will be the last one bred until I can find homes for some of the babies here already. I now have three litters (four babies total) looking for homes, plus a retiring adult. I have no more space for more babies. As much as I hate to mess up the breeding schedule, I need proper cage space, or it simply isn't ethical to continue breeding. I'm not sure why the sudden slow-down. I can usually find homes pretty quickly for my chinchillas. I will be lowering the price on the oldest litter to try to get them into a new home before Christmas. My main goal at this point is to find homes for Tristan and Nymeria, the last of my rescue cats. Sorry for the delay. I haven't been feeling well this week, but I did get new photos taken today and posted on the Rabbits page. I tried to check genders, but I'm still not sure on most of them. The black New Zealand bunnies are 2 bucks and 2 does, and I believe the two lighter marked Harlequin cross bunnies are does, but I'm not sure. The red New Zealands could be either, and I suspect the patch-marked Harlequin cross bunny may be a buck. If it is, then it'll need a home, as it's only pending if it's a doe.
